Efisiensi operasional merupakan faktor krusial bagi korporasi dalam mempertahankan daya saing di tengah volatilitas pasar global. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi tata letak fasilitas pada PT XYZ yang belum optimal, di mana alur distribusi antarstasiun kerja masih panjang dan berbelit. Masalah utama yang teridentifikasi meliputi terjadinya pola aliran bersilang (cross-tracking) dan penumpukan barang yang memicu pembengkakan biaya operasional serta menurunkan produktivitas. Guna mengatasi kompleksitas tersebut, penelitian ini menerapkan filosofi Group Technology (GT) untuk mengelompokkan komponen sejenis ke dalam family part berdasarkan kemiripan proses manufaktur. Tujuan penelitian adalah merancang ulang tata letak fasilitas untuk membentuk sel-sel produksi yang efisien serta mereduksi jarak perpindahan material. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa implementasi Group Technology Layout (GTL) mampu mengoptimalkan alur kerja dan secara finansial berhasil mereduksi total ongkos material handling secara signifikan dibandingkan kondisi awal.
Operational efficiency is a crucial factor for corporations to maintain competitiveness amidst global market volatility. This research is driven by the suboptimal facility layout at PT XYZ, where the distribution flow between workstations remains long and convoluted. The primary issues identified include cross-tracking flow patterns and material accumulation, which trigger increased operational costs and decrease overall productivity. To address these complexities, this study implements the Group Technology (GT) philosophy to group similar components into part families based on manufacturing process similarities. The research objective is to redesign the facility layout to form efficient production cells and reduce material movement distances. Analytical results demonstrate that the implementation of a Group Technology Layout (GTL) optimizes workflow and financially succeeds in significantly reducing total material handling costs compared to the initial conditions.
