Abstract

Mental workload acts as a crucial determinant impacting overall work performance, particularly within customer service roles that require continuous engagement under rigorous time constraints. This research is aimed at evaluating how mental workload influences the independent task execution of customer care personnel at XYZ Telecommunication Service Industry utilizing the NASA Task Load Index approach. The investigation involved five staff members and was assessed through the six NASA-TLX dimensions: Mental Demand (MD), Physical Demand (PD), Temporal Demand (TD), Own Performance (OP), Effort (EF), and Frustration (FR). Data acquisition relied on questionnaires to establish the weight and rating of each dimension. Analytical results revealed that the personnel's mental workload fell within the moderately high to high spectrum. The distinct mental workload scores for each operator were recorded at 51.96, 43.29, 50.28, 35.26, and 64.56, respectively. Temporal Demand (TD) emerged as the primary contributing indicator, verifying the existence of severe time pressure and a rushed working environment. Furthermore, the Effort (EF) and Mental Demand (MD) parameters significantly amplified the mental workload experienced by the workers. Excessive mental strain inherently risks impairing concentration, escalating occupational fatigue, and diminishing the quality of autonomous task completion. Consequently, it is highly recommended that the enterprise restructures task delegation and time management more efficiently to alleviate employee psychological stress and enhance operational output.
