Abstract

The increase in household waste in Indonesia poses serious environmental problems, primarily due to limited waste management systems and the continued use of open burning methods, which have negative impacts on air quality and public health. This situation drives the need for product innovations that can manage waste more effectively and in an environmentally friendly manner. The EcoBurn Compost Stove is designed as a solution that utilizes household waste as a source of heat energy while producing residue that can be reused. This study employs the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method to identify and translate consumer needs into the technical characteristics of the EcoBurn Compost Stove product. The QFD process is carried out through the construction of a House of Quality (HoQ) that links consumer requirement attributes—such as color, weight, dimensions, capacity, material, shape, texture, mobility, and filtration system—with the product's technical responses. Furthermore, the determination of importance levels, relationships between attributes, and comparative analysis with competing products are conducted. The results show that the attributes with the highest level of importance are product dimensions, capacity, material, and smoke emission levels, which become the main priorities in the design development. Additionally, the QFD results indicate that the proposed product design has competitive advantages over competing products in several key aspects. Thus, the application of the QFD method is proven effective in assisting product design that aligns with consumer needs and preferences.
