Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini merupakan tahap awal dari program Desa Binaan Universitas Sumatera Utara yang berfokus pada pengembangan sistem pertanian terpadu berbasis mina padi dan hortikultura organik di Desa Sayur Matua, Kecamatan Aek Nabara Barumun, Kabupaten Padang Lawas. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan kesadaran dan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai pertanian berkelanjutan, sekaligus mempersiapkan pondasi implementasi sistem pertanian organik yang efisien dan ramah lingkungan. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui sosialisasi, diskusi kelompok terarah (FGD), observasi lapangan, dan koordinasi lintas pemangku kepentingan desa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan meningkatnya pemahaman masyarakat tentang manfaat sistem mina padi dan pengelolaan limbah pertanian organik. Antusiasme tinggi terlihat dari partisipasi aktif kelompok tani dalam diskusi dan kesepakatan bersama untuk membangun lahan demplot percontohan seluas ±0,25 hektare. Kegiatan ini juga menghasilkan pemetaan potensi lahan, identifikasi jenis tanaman hortikultura yang cocok untuk integrasi, antara lain cabai merah, tomat, terung dan kangkung yang sesuai dengan kondisi agroekologi Desa Sayur Matua, serta penyusunan rencana tindak lanjut berupa pelatihan teknis dan penanaman perdana pada tahap berikutnya. Program ini menjadi langkah awal penting dalam mewujudkan Desa Sayur Matua sebagai model pengembangan pertanian organik terpadu yang berorientasi pada ketahanan pangan, peningkatan kesejahteraan petani, dan pelestarian lingkungan.

This community service activity is the initial stage of the North Sumatra University Mentored Village program, which focuses on developing an integrated agricultural system based on rice farming and organic horticulture in Sayur Matua Village, Aek Nabara Barumun Subdistrict, Padang Lawas Regency. The purpose of this activity is to increase community awareness and knowledge of sustainable agriculture while laying the foundation for the implementation of an efficient, environmentally friendly organic agricultural system. The implementation method used a participatory approach through socialization, focus group discussions (FGD), field observations, and coordination across village stakeholders. The activity results showed an increase in community understanding of the benefits of the rice-fish system and of organic agricultural waste management. High enthusiasm was evident in the active participation of farmer groups in discussions and in their mutual agreement to build a ±0.25-hectare demonstration plot. This activity also resulted in the mapping of land potential, the identification of horticultural crops suitable for integration, including red chili, tomato, eggplant, and kale, which are suitable for the agroecological conditions of Sayur Matua Village, as well as the preparation of a follow-up plan in the form of technical training and initial planting in the next stage. This program is an important first step towards realizing Sayur Matua Village as a model for integrated organic agriculture development, oriented towards food security, improved farmer welfare, and environmental preservation.
