Penerapan Metode Nigel Cross pada Desain Produk Menstrual Corset with Warm Pillow and Massage

Abstract

Dismenore yaitu kondisi nyeri pada perut yang umum dialami wanita saat menstruasi dan salah satu keluhan paling sering terkait siklus haid. Untuk mengatasi hal ini, dikembangkanlah alat bernama Menstrual Corset with Warm Pillow and Massage, yang dirancang untuk meredakan nyeri perut dan pinggang melalui panas dan pijatan. Dalam proses desain dan pengembangan produk ini, diperlukan sejumlah tahapan, seperti perancangan, proses manufaktur, perencanaan material, serta perhitungan biaya produksi. Meski alat ini telah digunakan, masih terdapat keluhan dari pengguna terkait kenyamanan dan efektivitasnya. Maka digunakan metode Nigel Cross untuk meningkatkan kualitas desain berdasarkan kepuasan pengguna. Terdapat tujuh tahapan dalam metode ini, yang salah satunya menghasilkan diagram pohon dengan tiga tingkat fungsi. Pada tahap penentuan fungsi, didapat sub-fungsi berupa bantal penghangat, alat pijat mini, dan fitur aromaterapi. Penilaian fitur teknis menunjukkan satu fitur sangat sulit, lima fitur sulit, dan satu fitur tergolong mudah. Tahap pembangkitan alternatif menghasilkan tiga produk substitusi. Evaluasi alternatif menunjukkan bahwa produk utama lebih stabil dibandingkan alternatif pertama. Terakhir, pada tahap improving detail, terdapat penurunan biaya produksi dari Rp 290.000 menjadi Rp 280.000.

Dysmenorrhea is a condition of abdominal pain commonly experienced by women during menstruation and is one of the most frequently reported complaints related to the menstrual cycle. To address this issue, a device called the Menstrual Corset with Warm Pillow and Massage was developed, designed to relieve abdominal and lower back pain through heat and massage therapy. The design and development of this product involve several stages, including design planning, manufacturing, material planning, and cost estimation. Although the product has been utilized, users still report discomfort and dissatisfaction with its performance. Therefore, the Nigel Cross method was applied to improve the design quality based on user satisfaction. This method involves seven stages, one of which produces a function tree diagram with three different levels. In the function determination stage, sub-functions identified include a warming pillow, a mini massager, and an aromatherapy feature. The technical feature assessment revealed one feature as very difficult, five as difficult, and one as relatively easy to implement. The substitution generation stage produced three alternative products. In the alternative evaluation stage, the main product was found to be more stable than the first alternative. Finally, in the improving detail stage, production costs decreased from IDR 290,000 to IDR 280,000.
