The Impact of the Fuel Price Increasing on the Rising Prices of Nine Basic Materials in Padangsidempuan

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of the influence or impact of the fuel increase on the increase in the
price of basic food prices in the market, especially in Padangsidempuan City. As well as to determine the extent to
which the increase in fuel has an impact on consumer demand for basic necessities and its effect on the income of
traders. This research uses quantitative descriptive analysis method. The population in this study were basic food
traders registered in Padangsidempuan City with the category of traders selling in 6 markets, namely Sanggumpal
Bonang Market, Pajak Batu, Dalihan Natolu, Saroha Padangmatinggi, Tangsi Manungga and Lubuk Raya Market.
Sampling in this study used the Slovin formula and obtained 100 respondents. The type of data used in this study is
promer data with interview and questionnaire data collection techniques. The results of this study indicate that the
independent variable (fuel price) affects the dependent variable (price of groceries, demand and income of traders). The
results of the hypothesis show that there are differences in the price of basic commodities, before and after the fuel
increase. There is a difference in demand for basic necessities before and after the fuel increase and finally there is a
difference in the income of basic food traders before and after the increase in fuel prices.
