Abstract

This study aims to determine the regional leading sector and to determine the development strategy in the Deli Serdang Regency area. The type of research used is descriptive and quantitative. This research uses secondary data in the form of time series data of GRDP at constant prices of Deli Serdang Regency and North Sumatra Province in 2011-2022 using the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis method, Shift Share analysis, Klassen Typology analysis, and SWOT analysis conducted with Microsoft Excel. The results of Location Quotient (LQ) analysis showed 6 (six) leading sectors in Deli Serdang Regency. The results of the Shift Share analysis show 10 (ten) sectors with fast growth, so they have the potential to be developed in spurring the growth of GRDP of Deli Serdang Regency. And the Klassen Typology analysis shows that there are 6 (six) sectors that are categorized as developed and fast-growing sectors in
Deli Serdang Regency. The results of the SWOT analysis show that the regional development strategy of Deli Serdang Regency can be carried out by developing the regional leading sector, so there are several alternative strategies produced, namely utilizing the potential of being close to the capital of North Sumatra Province to drive the
community's economy, increasing the potential of the leading sector by utilizing government support, optimizing the management of the leading sector to create jobs and partnerships with the private sector, optimizing public services and economic infrastructure, and creating a conducive business climate to encourage the economy to face competition in the era of globalization which is useful for supporting the development of the Deli Serdang Regency region and the development of strategic areas in the context of equitable development in the research area.
