Abstract
This research aims to design the AeroMist, This product is designed as a portable solution that serves dual purposes: dispersing fragrance like a diffuser while also reducing humidity levels, similar to a dehumidifier. The design process was carried out systematically based on Nigel Cross’s approach, which consists of seven main stages: goal clarification, function determination, need creation, specification of technical features, generation of alternatives, evaluation of alternatives, and detailed design. In the goal clarification stage, the objectives tree method was used to identify the main goals and sub-goals hierarchically. The product’s functions were analyzed using the Black Box method to map the relationship between input and output. Consumer needs were determined through brainstorming and questionnaires based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. The analysis revealed that 'wish' attributes were more numerous than 'demand' attributes, suggesting that the design of the product corresponds well with what consumers are looking for. Technical characteristics were defined using Quality Function Deployment and visualized in the House of Quality. Design alternatives were developed using a morphological chart approach and evaluated using the weighted objective method. AeroMist was selected as the best design based on the weighting results. During the development phase, value engineering was applied to reduce the production cost from IDR 380,000 to IDR 330,000 without compromising quality. Product simulation using SolidWorks software showed a mass of 0.217 kg and a tensile strength of 4.079 N/m². The research results demonstrate that the Nigel Cross method is effective in producing innovative, efficient product that relevant the needs of the modern market.
