Abstract
Sebagian besar peralatan elektronik rumah tangga dikendalikan secara otomatis. Ada banyak jenis peralatan elektronik rumah tangga, seperti setrika, dispenser, blender, ketel listrik, mixer, dan sebagainya. Alat-alat elektronik rumah tangga tersebut sering mengalami damage yang dapat menyebabkan tertundanya pekerjaan yang menggunakan alat tersebut. Berdasarkan pengumpulan data pada UMKM Servis Elektronik di wilayah Kec. Medan Helvetia, bahwa peralatan elektronik yang sering mengalami damage adalah ketel listrik. Ketel listrik adalah alat listrik yang memiliki unit pemanas tersendiri, untuk memanaskan air dan otomatis mati ketika air mencapai titik didih. Damage yang sering terjadi pada produk ketel listrik berdasarkan hasil wawancara adalah pada komponen thermostat yang tidak memutus aliran listrik ketika mencapai suhu yang telah ditentukan. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, dilakukan perbaikan dengan Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) dengan menggunakan metode pemilihan material. DFMA merupakan suatu pendekatan yang digunakan untuk membantu menentukan desain produk dan metode perakitan suatu produk dengan waktu dan biaya yang optimal.
Most household electronic equipment is controlled automatically. There are many types of household electronic equipment, such as irons, dispensers, blenders, electric kettles, mixers, and so on. These household electronic devices often experience damage which can cause delays in work using these devices. Based on data collection on Electronic Service MSMEs in the Kec. Medan Helvetia, that the electronic equipment that often experiences damage is the electric kettle. An electric kettle is an electrical appliance that has an independent heating unit, to heat water and automatically turns off when the water reaches boiling point. The damage that often occurs in electric kettle products based on interviews is the thermostat component which does not cut off the electricity when it reaches a predetermined temperature. Based on these problems, improvements were made with Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) using the material selection method. DFMA is an approach used to help determine product design and assembly methods for a product with optimum time and cost.
