Abstract
Potato productivity in Simpang Banua and Simpang Hinalang Villages is very low. This is very burdensome to potato farmers, especially when the price of potatoes is falling. Increasingly erratic weather is also an obstacle to the growth of potato crops. The farmers began to use chemical fertilizers and drugs in excess to optimize growth and increase productivity. Excessive use of chemicals results in an imbalance of nutrients in the soil, so that plant growth is disrupted. Stunted growth of potato tubers reduces plant productivity. To balance soil nutrients, potato farmers must carry out soil management through environmentally friendly fertilizing and plant pests and diseases controlling. Potato farmers in the area of community service activities need help to deal with these problems in the form of extension and training in soil management through environmentally friendly fertilizing and plant pests and diseases controlling to optimize growth and increase the productivity of potato crops. The response of the farmers to the material provided by the community service team was very good and positive. The results of community service activities could increase the knowledge and skills of the farmers so that the potato farmers know how to fertilize and control pests and diseases that do not interfere with the balance of soil nutrients. Through it, it is hoped that the potato farmers can increase productivity and quality in meeting market demand and produce products that are safe for consumption with environmentally friendly cultivation.
